Boise "Sunny" Burge, Jr.
Boise "Sunny" Burge, Jr., age 89, a resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, formerly of Mission Hills, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, August 26, 2021, at Hedrick Medical Center, Chillicothe, Missouri.
Reared in urban Shawnee Mission, Kansas, Sunny's education started in Westwood View Elementary School, continued into Rural Shawnee Mission High School, and graduated from the University Of Kansas School Of Architectural Engineering, where he was an honorary member of the Society of Scarab. He continued his education at the University of Kansas and the University of Missouri (in Kansas City, Missouri) in the school of law. He is also proud to have served during the Korean Conflict as a Naval Reservist.
Sunny has served presidencies in the Burge Fence and Iron Corporation, University of Kansas Alumni of Kansas City, Vanguard, Keyland, Inc., Phi Delta Theta Fraternal Alumni Association of Kansas City, and the Kansas City Food and Wine Society. He has served on the board of directors of Ducks Unlimited of Johnson County, Kansas, The Kansas City Cub, Lake Lotawana and Jocomo sailing clubs, Vice President of the Paul Hamilton Real Estate Company. He has been a member of the Kansas City, Missouri Real Estate Board on the Ethics Council, Johnson County Real Estate, Mission Hills Country Club. He also served as a deacon of the Village Presbyterian Church in Prairie Village, Kansas, where he helped organize Cub and Boy Scouts Programs.
Sunny's first love is enjoying nature and the outdoors, from Colorado High Country fishing to hunts of quail, pheasant, ducks and geese with his stable of hunting dogs. Added to this is his competition in sailing regattas extending from bodies of water in Texas to those in Wisconsin.
Sunny is also deeply involved in his farm properties in the Linn and Livingston Counties, the Grand River Area Family YMCA of Chillicothe, and the United Methodist Church, Chillicothe, Missouri.
A pilot with a commercial rating, Sunny enjoyed transporting University of Kansas friends and fans to college games, as well as taking his family on vacations. That family includes his son, Boise "Bif" Burge, III, and wife Brenda of Meeker, Colorado, and Lisa Webber McCluer of Phoenix, Arizona. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Vennessa Petermen, Jessica Mora, Alyssa Bayne, and Katie McCluer; one great granddaughter, Lanaea Petermen; one brother, Tom Burge, Jr., of Kansas City, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one son-in-law, John McCluer.
