Robert L. "Bob" Smith, age 64, a resident of Chula, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2011 at his residence. Bob was born the son of Bill and Grace Lucille (Catron) Smith on May 28, 1947 in Chillicothe, Missouri. Bob was a 1965 graduate from Chillicothe High School. He was united in marriage to Pat Tietjens on August 31, 1968 in Chillicothe, Missouri at St. Columban's Church. She survives of the home. He graduated from North Central Missouri College in 1991, and then graduated from the University of Missouri in Columbia with a Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture in 1995. Bob worked as a farmer and as a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in the Chula area. From 1969 until 1979 he worked for Milbank Mills as a Marketing Representative. He also worked as a Livingston County Chula R-3 School Bus Driver and as a substitute teacher at Chillicothe High School. Bob was a member of the 3rd and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Council 1084 of Chillicothe, Missouri. He was also a part of the Chillicothe Young Farmers, Missouri State Young Farmers, Livingston County 4-H and FFA Fair Association, Missouri State FFA Alumni Board, Chillicothe FFA Alumni, Livingston County Steam and Gas Association, Missouri Rural Letter Carrier Association, a life-time member of the Livingston County Historical Society, Chula Centennial Committee, Missouri Rural Crisis Center, Chillicothe Farm Protest, Community Chorus, Livingston County Men's Democrat Club, and also played as Santa Claus for many years. He was also awarded the honor of Eagle Scout for Troop 187 of Chula, Missouri in 1964. Bob is survived by his parents, Bill and Grace Smith of Chillicothe, Missouri; wife, Pat Smith of the home, Chula, Missouri; one son, Billy Smith of Kansas City, Missouri; two daughters, Amy Kelsey and husband Kris of Agency, Missouri, and Abby Smith and husband Chad of Hamilton, Missouri; two sisters, Mary Vulgamott and husband Kerby of Chillicothe, Missouri, and Billie Jennings and husband John of Warrensburg, Missouri; six grandchildren, Gracie, Maggie, Allie, and Leo Kelsey of Agency, Missouri, and Bo and Lexy Smith of Hamilton, Missouri; mother-in-law and father-in-law, June and Ray Sowder of Chillicothe, Missouri; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Bill and Connie Jones of Chillicothe, Missouri, and David and Judy Fairchild of Hamilton, Missouri; several nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Services will be held on Friday, January 6, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Columban's Catholic Church, Chillicothe, Missouri. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri on Thursday, January 5, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. There will be a Knights of Columbus service Thursday evening at 5:30 p.m. at the St. Columban's Church and a parish rosary at 6:00 p.m. with a visitation to follow. Burial will be held at the Plainview Cemetery, Chula, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bob Smith Grandchildren Education Fund and can be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, Missouri 64601.
