Billy Joe Cox, age 77, a resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, died Sunday March 14, 2010, at the Kansas City VA Medical Center. Bill was born August 13, 1932 to Glen Russell Cox and Georgia Irene (Gordon) Cox in Chillicothe, Missouri. Bill was a graduate of Mooresville High School in 1950. He served in the United States Air Force from 1951 until 1955, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant and served as Crew Chief aboard a KC-97 airborne refueling tanker. Bill was a member of the Friendship Lodge 89 AF & AM, a member of the Vern R. Glick American Legion Post 25 for 31 years, the Livingston County Men's Democratic Club, and was a member of the Methodist Church of Mooresville, Missouri. Bill worked for A&P Grocery Stores in Kansas City and John Graves Foods in Chillicothe. He retired from Indian Hills Retirement Village of Chillicothe in 1990. His favorite pastimes were watching sports on TV, reading and visiting with friends. He especially enjoyed visits from his grandson Zach and attending his sporting events. He is survived by his two children, Joseph Cox of Topeka, Kansas and Jennifer Grossman of Cameron, Missouri; and his grandson, Zach Grossman of Tina, Missouri. He is also survived by one brother, Bob Cox and wife Polly of Colorado Springs, Colorado; three sisters, Betty Lemon and husband Jerry and Barbara Cox, all of Chillicothe, Missouri, Beverly Steiner and husband Bob of Runaway Bay, Texas; one aunt, Lois C. Firmin of Chillicothe, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Larry Cox. Services will be held on Thursday, March 18, 2010 at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri at 10:00 a.m. There will be a family visitation on Wednesday, March 17, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Friends may call on Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Chillicothe, Missouri.
