Bill Smith

Bill Smith Bill Smith, age 93, a resident of 300 Woodrow, Chillicothe, Missouri, died at his home on Wednesday, August 1, 2012. He was born in Chula, Missouri on December 4, 1918, the son of Brock and Grace Kilburn Smith. After the death of his mother at age three, Brock and Sarah (Waits) Smith raised him. Bill married Grace Lucille Catron on April 5, 1942 at St. Columban's Catholic Church in Chillicothe, Missouri. She survives of the home. Mr. Smith was a 1936 graduate of Chula High School and served during World War II in the United States Army. He lived most of his life in Chula, Missouri, moving to the Chillicothe area in 1981. Bill and his wife, Grace wintered in Brownsville, Texas from 1976 to 2012. Mr. Smith was a self-employed farmer. He was a member of St. Columban's Catholic Church, Charolais Association, Mid American Dairy, Oats Bus Driver, RSVP Volunteer, and had a lifetime membership in the Grand River Historical Society. Bill is survived by his wife, Grace, of the home in Chillicothe, Missouri, 2 daughters; Mary Vulgamott and son-in-law Kerby of Chillicothe, Missouri, Billie Jennings and son-in-law John of Warrensburg, Missouri; 1 Daughter-in-law, Pat Smith of Chula, Missouri; 1 sister, Frances Leigh Lamp of Chillicothe, Missouri; 7 grandchildren, Billy Smith of Kansas City, Missouri, Amy Kelsey and husband Kris of Agency, Missouri, Abby Smith and husband Chad of Chillicothe, Missouri, Chad Vulgamott, Chillicothe, Missouri, Kerby "Chip" Vulgamott of Herculaneum, Missouri , Sarah Fromal and husband Steven of Wallingford, Pennsylvania, and Jack Jennings of Fayetteville, Arkansas, and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Brock and Sarah Smith, his biological mother, Grace Kilburn Smith, a son, Robert "Bob" Smith, three brothers Wade Smith, Dale Smith, and foster brother Dale Gorman, an infant sister, Helen Gladys Smith, and one great-grandchild, Myles Fromal. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Columban's Catholic Church on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at 12:00 noon. Burial will be in the Plainview Cemetery, Chula, Missouri. A Parish rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, August 3, 2012 at the St. Columban's Church followed by a family visitation. Friends may call from 12:00 noon until 3:00 p.m. on Friday at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri and from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at St. Columban's Church.
