Betty Ann Ponting Betty Ann Ponting, age 82, a resident of Hale, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at home with her husband Richard by her side. Betty was born the daughter of Reams and Evelyn (Bennett) Downey on February 8, 1931 in Sumner Missouri. Betty spent her entire childhood in the Sumner area. She was united in marriage to Richard Keith Ponting on August 20, 1949, he survives of the home. Betty and Richard spent their early married years in the Sumner area and then moved to Hale in 1968. Throughout her life Betty was a fierce business woman, she was the owner and operator of The Honey House restaurant in Sumner Missouri, Hale Meat and Grocery in Hale Missouri, and Riverside Kennels. Betty also bought and sold numerous homes, always looking to make a profit. She was an excellent cook, loved her flower gardens and most importantly her large family. Survivors include husband, Richard Ponting of the home; five sons Terry Ponting and wife Connie of Sumner, Missouri; Timothy Ponting and wife Barbara of Providence, Ohio; Theodore Ponting and wife Brenda of Hale, Missouri; Reams Ponting and friend Robin of Sumner, Missouri; and Dick Ponting Jr. and wife Debby of Hale, Missouri; sixteen grandchildren, and 22 great grandchildren with two more on the way; one sister Colleen Johnson, Brunswick Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents. Burial was at Lakeside Cemetery, Sumner, Missouri. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Lindley Funeral Home, Hale, Missouri.
