Betty Lou Hawkins
Betty Lou Hawkins, age 83, a resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, January 30, 2022, at Hedrick Medical Center, Chillicothe, Missouri.
Betty was born the daughter of Virgil Joseph and Grace Ivalee (Jackson) Kinney on April 23, 1938, in Kirksville, Missouri. She was a 1956 graduate of Kirksville High School. She was united in marriage to Donald "Bill" Hawkins on June 14, 1959, in Kirksville, Missouri. He preceded her in death on June 29, 2007. Betty and her husband owned and operated B.R. Harris Company in Chillicothe for 27 years. She was a member of the Chillicothe United Methodist Church, where she was active in the Joanna Circle of United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Betty volunteered at House of Prayer, Hedrick Medical Center Hospital Auxiliary, and was a Rotarian Wife. Betty loved spending time with her grandchildren, and also enjoyed playing cards, bowling, and square dancing with her club, The Peppy Promenaders. Bill and Betty enjoyed many years as members of the Chilli Campers. In addition to volunteering, she enjoyed sewing and quilting baby outfits, pillows, quilts, and other crafts for family, friends, acquaintances and organizations all around the county.
Survivors include two sons, Randy Hawkins and wife Amy of Chillicothe, Missouri, and Ronald Hawkins and wife Peggy of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; two daughters, Sherry Thomas and husband Dale of Chillicothe, Missouri, and Shelly Turner and husband Brian of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; nine grandchildren, LeDawn Beck and husband Major Scott Beck of Greenwood, Indiana, Adam Thomas of Aurora, Colorado, Jennifer Hawkins of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, Andrew Thomas and wife Cherokee of Chillicothe, Missouri, Lauren Hawkins of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, Weston Turner of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Elizabeth Hawkins of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, Mason Turner of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Wesley Hawkins of Chillicothe, Missouri; three great grandchildren, Penelope Ellebracht, Bentley Thomas, and Dillon Thomas; and one brother, Lloyd Kinney of Kirksville, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill; one sister, Donna Kinney; sister-in-law, Betty Kinney; and nephews, Frank Kinney and Danny Kinney.
Funeral services will be held at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Monday, February 7, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. A scheduled visitation will be held at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Sunday, February 6, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Sunday, February 6, 2022, from 12 noon until 6:00 p.m. Burial will be held at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Chillicothe, Missouri.
