Betty Arlene Deardorff, age 87, a resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, February 20, 2019, at her residence.
Betty was born the daughter of Charles (Chad) and Martha (Epperson) Guilford on March 20, 1931, in Chillicothe, Missouri. She attended Leaton Grade School and was a 1949 graduate of Hale High School, Hale, Missouri. In high school she sang in a group and was on the student council. She was united in marriage to Richard Kirk Deardorff on September 24, 1949. He preceded her in death on December 23, 2014. Betty and Kirk lived on a farm northwest of Hale until 1994. She enjoyed gardening, canning, taking care of her Iris flowers, cats, raising chickens, homemaking, visiting with neighbors, and cooking big dinners for her family. Betty became an active member of the Hale Methodist Church on September 1, 1954. She was also an active member of the Hale Triangle Extension Club and the Hale VFW Auxiliary #3464. She helped cook for the Hale Methodist Church Harvest Dinners and other community dinners. She worked briefly at Livingston Manor Nursing Home and took cake decorating classes at the Grand River Technical School. In 1994 the farm was sold and she and Kirk moved to Chillicothe. There she enjoyed taking care of her flowers, visiting with her neighbors and shopping. In November 2013 she became a regular client of Bella Brooke Adult Day Center until December 2018. She was loved by all.
Betty is survived by; two sons, James Richard of Chillicothe, Missouri, and Kirby Deardorff and wife Diana, of Chillicothe, Missouri; three grand nieces, Stephanie Guilford and husband Jeff of Omaha, Nebraska, Janna McKenna and husband Patrick of Springfield, Missouri, and Katie Steckler of Omaha, Nebraska; and one grandnephew, Chad Nathan Steckler of Omaha, Nebraska. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard; one brother, Ralph Guilford; her niece Beverly Steckler; her sister-in-law Anna Miller; and her brother-in-law Robert Deardorff.
Funeral services will be held at Hale Methodist Church, Hale, Missouri, on Sunday, February 24, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. A scheduled visitation will be held at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Saturday, February 23, 2019, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home in Chillicothe, Missouri, on Saturday, February 23, 2019, from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Burial will be held the Hale Memorial Gardens, Hale, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hale Methodist Church and/or the American Heart Association and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, Missouri 64601.
