Bette Campbell Bette Mae Batta Campbell was born September 12, 1924 to Frank A. and Lucile Lee Batta. After a long illness, she left this earth surrounded by her family to head to her heavenly home on September 15, 2015. She was preceded in death by her mother and father; two step-fathers Jack Boucher and Roscoe Place; her husband David Reed Campbell; daughter Laurie Lynn; and sister Doris Howerton. Bette was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, teacher, mentor, friend and caregiver. She graduated from Columbia College AA, University of Iowa BA, and Truman University MA. She was a teacher in Chillicothe for 29 years, a member of PEO Chapter T, RSVP volunteer for 19 years and a Girl Scout and 4H leader. She loved bridge and was in the American Contract League. Bette was a Sunday school teacher, sang in the choir for 53 years and was a Deacon and Elder in the First Christian Church. In Chillicothe she was also a member of the First Baptist Church and transferred her membership when she moved to Springfield to Northside Christian Church. She volunteered at Indian Hills Nursing Home, Hedrick Memorial Hospital and received "Volunteer Teacher of the Year" at Chillicothe Vo-Tech, "RSVP Volunteer of the Year" and was honored with the "State-wide Volunteer of the Year" award. She is survived by son David Lee Campbell; daughter Cathie Hampton and husband Rick; grandchildren Melissa Dawn Campbell, Albuquerque, NM, Elizabeth McHaley (Steven), Pensacola, FL, Chris Hampton, Willard, MO, Marlana Howerton (John), Phillipsburg, MO, Ryan Hampton (Maegan), Fort Rucker, AL; great-grandchildren Dakota, Hannah, Jacob, Lexi, Kira and Gage Hampton, Cole and Audrey Howerton, Rhiannon and Myric Hampton, Teddy Powers, Delaney Hill and Mila Ensminger. She is also survived by a nephew Hugh Howerton, Spring, TX; and a very close cousin who was like a brother to her, Charles Donald Lee, Holts Summit, MO. Celebration of Life will be held in Springfield, Missouri on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Northside Christian Church. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. until service time. A second service will be held in Chillicothe Missouri on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. at Lindley Funeral Home. Visitation will be at 3:00 p.m. until service time.
