Betsy Louise Hicklin Betsy Louise Hicklin, age 89, a resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, December 23, 2014, at Morningside Center, Chillicothe, Missouri. Betsy was born the daughter of Herbert and Carrie (Adcock) McCartney on August 20, 1925, in Fort Smith, Arkansas. She was a 1941 graduate of Bladensburg High School, Bladensburg, Maryland. She then attended the University of Maryland. She was united in marriage to Roy Hicklin on December 8, 1945, in Landover, Maryland. He preceded her in death on February 6, 1993. Betsy worked at Western Union, Washington D.C. from 1943 until 1945. After moving to Chillicothe in 1946 she was a homemaker, she served as the first manager at Hope Haven, Chillicothe, and was a project manager at Green Hills Community Action Agency, Trenton, from 1972 until her retirement in 1992. Betsy was a member of the United Methodist Church, Chillicothe, and a member of the Grand River Historical Society. She was a past president of the Vern R. Glick American Legion Women's Auxiliary, a former member of the United Methodist Women, a Morningside Center Board Member for 20 years, a Senior Center Board Member, and volunteered with Employment services, Operation Help and various Livingston County 4-H clubs. Survivors include one son, Keith Hicklin and wife Connie of Platte City and Chillicothe, Missouri; two daughters, Linda Peterson and husband Ronald of Stanberry, Missouri, and Karen Hicklin and husband Robert Steinkuehler of Warrensburg, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Bryan, Kent and Troy Peterson, Christopher and Thomas Snider, Carrie Miller, and Clayton Hicklin; thirteen great-grandchildren; two brothers, Herbert Earl McCartney of Sarasota, Florida, and Alvin McCartney of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother Richard McCartney; and one great-granddaughter, Morgan Ann Peterson. Funeral services will be held at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Friday, December 26, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. A scheduled family visitation will be held at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Friday, December 26, 2014, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 23, 2014 and on Friday, December 26, 2014, from 9:00 a.m. until service time. A private family burial will be held at Edgewood Cemetery, Chillicothe, Missouri.
