Berva L. Hapes, age 93, a resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, January 28, 2021, at Morningside Center, Chillicothe, Missouri.
Berva was born the daughter of William John and Martha (Straub) Lauhoff on August 10, 1927, in Mendon, Missouri. She was a 1941 graduate of St. Joseph's Academy, in Chillicothe, Missouri. She was united in marriage to Wayne R. Hapes on September 14, 1946, in Chillicothe, Missouri. He preceded her in death on August 25, 2001. Berva worked as a cook at the Chillicothe High School for over 23 years. She was a member of St. Columban Catholic Church, Chillicothe, Missouri. She was also a member of the St. Ann's Altar Society, R.S.V.P., Missouri Retired Teachers Association, and was a 4-H cooking leader for over 15 years. Berva enjoyed cooking, gardening, and most of all spending time with her family, especially the great grandchildren.
Survivors include one son, Bill Hapes and wife Ronda of Chillicothe, Missouri; three daughters, Shirley Triplett and husband Richard of Milton, Florida, Carolyn Hurst and husband Richard of Palm Beach Garden, Florida, and Martha Peery and husband Lenny of Jupiter, Florida; eleven grandchildren, Tom Triplett and wife Theresa of Meadville, Missouri, Bill Triplett and wife Jamie of Oktaha, Oklahoma, Christopher Hurst and wife Melissa of Perryville, Missouri, Julie Young and husband Darrin of Chillicothe, Missouri, Brian Hurst and wife Joan of Farmington, Missouri, Kevin Peery and wife Jen of Blue Springs, Missouri, Clint Peery and wife Amy of Chillicothe, Missouri, Rebecca Ripley and husband Kenneth of Lawson, Missouri, Adam Hapes and wife Nicole of Columbia, Missouri, Clayton Campbell and wife Rochelle of Otterville, Missouri, and Abby Smith and husband Clay of Moberly, Missouri; twenty-six great grandchildren; two great-great granddaughters; son in law Mike Campbell and wife Jill of Otterville, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Wayne; one daughter, Mary; and one brother, Paul Lauhoff.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the St. Columban Catholic Church, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Tuesday, February 2, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. A private family Parish Rosary will be held at the St. Columban Catholic Church, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Tuesday, February 2, 2021, at 9:00 a.m. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Monday, February 1, 2021, from 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m. Burial will be held at the St. Columban Catholic Cemetery, Chillicothe, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Columban Catholic Church and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, Missouri 64601.
