Bernita Elaine Mammen

Obituary Bernita Elaine Pyrtle Mammen being surrounded by her family, left her earthly home on Sunday, January 31, 2016, to meet her Lord and Savior. Bernita was born in Chillicothe, Missouri, to Leland and Bertha Ellen (Dawkins) Pyrtle on February 25, 1945. She accepted Jesus Christ when she was six years old and became a member of Calvary Baptist Church. On February 23, 1963, she married John LeeRoy Mammen. They became the parents of two sons Brent Mammen (Michelle) of Lee's Summit and Brandon Mammen (Jerilyn) of Lawson, Missouri. They have five grandchildren, Luke, Blake, Brock, Derek and Bailey Mammen. They are the light of her and Johnnie's life. Bernita is survived by her husband Johnnie, her two sons and their families, brothers David Pyrtle (Shirley) of Chula, Bob Pyrtle (Judy) of Chillicothe, sisters Lena Whitacre (Wilbur) of St Joseph, Sheila Cooper (Jerry) of Chillicothe, brother-in-law Walter Breeden of Chillicothe, sister-in-law Sandy Mammen of Chillicothe, brothers-in-law Jack Mammen (Charlotte) and Bob Mammen Chillicothe and a host of nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death was her mother and father Leland and Bertha Pyrtle, sister Patricia Breeden, father and mother-in-law John and Nevis (Hall) Mammen, sister-in-law Carol Lollar and brother-in-law, Jerry Mammen. Bernita was employed by Producers Creamery in the office for five years then became a stay-at-home mom. After her boys started school she went to work at Howard's Dress Shop and was there for eight years, then Chillicothe State Bank and Bank Midwest for twenty-five and a half years. Bernita was a member of Mickey Cox Sunday School Class and the Jewell Dowell Mission Group. She was an avid reader and loved spending time with her grandchildren and another great joy in her life was helping others. She was instrumental in helping get Habitat for Humanity established in Chillicothe. She served on the Steering Committee, Board of Directors, and Site Selection Committee. Bernita will be greatly missed by a host of family and friends. Services will be Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, Chillicothe. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Chillicothe. Family visitation will be Tuesday, February 2, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 2, 2016, from 12 noon until 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Chillicothe Area Habitat for Humanity or to Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O.
