Barbara Joy Rumsey

Barbara Joy Rumsey Barbara Rumsey, age 79, a resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, former resident of Independence, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, June 26, 2014, at Morningside Center, Chillicothe, Missouri. Barbara was born the daughter of Spencer and Marie (Tingler) Vulgamott on January 31, 1935, in Burlington Junction, Missouri. She was a 1953 graduate of Hopkins High School, Burlington Junction, Missouri. She was united in marriage to Charles E. Pike, Jr. on April 28, 1956. He preceded her in death on August 22, 1972. Barbara worked as an accounts collector for Montgomery Wards and then later for G.E. for over 20 years. For the last year Barbara has made her home with her nephew Kerby Vulgamott and his wife Mary in Chillicothe, Missouri. She was a member of the Independence, Missouri, Red Hatters. Survivors include two brothers, Stanley Vulgamott and wife Ruth of Independence, Missouri, and William Vulgamott and wife Shirley of Jacksonville, Florida; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles E. Pike, Jr.; three infant sons; three brothers, Robert, Roland, and Theodore "Ted" Vulgamott; and one sister Sarah Elizabeth Vulgamott Hartman. Graveside services will be held at the Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Joseph, Missouri, on Thursday, July 3, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. There is no scheduled family visitation. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 2, 2014, from 12 noon until 8:00 p.m. Burial will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Joseph, Missouri.
