Arthur Clark Nichols II Arthur Clark Nichols II, 95, a former resident of Chillicothe, died peacefully Saturday, December 22, 2012, at Josie Harper Hospice House in Omaha, NE. Art was born April 12, 1917, the son of Arthur and Amy Loveland Nichols, on their family farm in Mercer County, MO. On April 30, 1939, in Los Angeles, CA, he married Evelyn Pearl Swenson, the love of his life for 64 years until her death in 2003. A graduate of Chillicothe High School, Art attended Chillicothe Business College. During WWII, he served in the United States Air Force from 1942-45 as an aerial flight engineer. Throughout his life, Art was a well-respected businessman, employed by Minneapolis-Moline Farm Machinery and later Koehring Farm Division, and an active community leader. After returning to Chillicothe in 1989 from El Paso, Texas, Art was a member of the United Methodist Church, as well as the Sons of the American Revolution. In the fall of 2011, Art moved to Omaha, NE. A wise man of honor and integrity, Art was known for his love of family, devotion to his faith, strong work ethic, and sharp intellect. Through dedicated research, he and Evelyn compiled a genealogy book, tracing his ancestry back to early American families. Art is survived by his son, Doug Nichols and wife, Mary of Adel, IA; daughter-in-law, Maureen Nichols of Omaha, NE, her son, Brett Swanson and her daughter, Colleen Hoefer husband, Brady and their children, Riley, Tobin, and Natalie; granddaughter, Morya Mathewson, husband O.J., and their children, Allie and Brock of Papillion, NE; granddaughter, Kate Errthum, husband Eric, and their children Gedion and Eomji of Winona, MN; grandson Chris Nichols, wife Sara, and son Tucker of Perry, IA; and grandson, Ben Nichols, wife Amber, and son Bodhi, of Redfield, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers and sisters, Venus, Helen, Pauline, Paris, and Carl; his wife, Evelyn; and his son, Craig. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 27, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri. There will be a visitation for family and friends on Thursday, December 27, 2012 prior to the service at 9:00 a.m. at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe on Wednesday, December 26, 2012 from 12 noon until 6:00 p.m. Burial will be held at Edgewood Cemetery, Chillicothe, Missouri.
