Alta Grace Smith

Alta Grace Smith, age 86, a resident of Chillicothe, Missouri passed away at Indian Hills Nursing Home in Chillicothe, Missouri on Sunday, February 7, 2010. She was born on July 24, 1923 in Ludlow, Missouri the daughter of Frank and Lillian (Hooker) Gilliland. She graduated from Ludlow High School, Ludlow, Missouri in 1941. She attended Maryville State Teacher's College, Maryville, Missouri. On December 24, 1942 she married Chancey W. Smith in Chillicothe, Missouri. He preceded her in death on September 14, 2007. Alta was a homemaker. She loved birds, farming, flowers, and most of all loved all children. Surivors include one son, Roger Smith, of Breckenridge, Missouri; one daughter, Nancey Larkin and husband, Mark, of Carlsbad, California; two brothers, Dave Gilliland and wife, Betty Ann, of Ludlow, Missouri, Dohn Gilliland and wife, Joyce, of Ludlow, Missouri; seven sisters, Carol Lamb of Ludlow, Missouri, Mina Lee Anderson and husband, Ralph, of Omaha, Nebraska, Nina Lou Thomas of Carrollton, Missouri, Maryilyn Carson and husband, Paul, of St. Joseph, Missouri, Nola Zeltwanger and husband, Bill, of St. Joseph, Missouri, Janice Swanson and husband, Larry, of St. Joseph, Missouri; five grandchildren, Timothy Smith and wife, April, Travis Smith and wife, Becky, Taran Smith, Janeen Sanchez and husband, Julian, and Nash NeJame; three great-grandchildren, Julian Nash Sanchez, Sofia Grace Sanchez and soon to be Abigail Grace Smith. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Richard and George (Pat) Gilliland. Services will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2010 at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri at 10:00 a.m. There will be a family visitation on Friday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Friends may call on Friday from 12:00 noon until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in McCoskrie Cemetery in Ludlow, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to McCoskrie Cemetery and\or Alta Grace Smith Memorial Fund and may be left at the funeral home or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, PO Box 47, Chillicothe, Missouri 64601.
