Alta “June” Brewer McKenzie, age 98, a resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at Morningside Center, Chillicothe, Missouri.
June was born the daughter of Virgil and Jennie (Hurford) Brewer on October 8, 1926 in Powersville, Missouri. She was a 1944 graduate of Trenton High School. She went to Cosmetology school and worked as a beautician until 1946. On February 14, 1946, June married W.E. (Mac) McKenzie, Jr. in Chillicothe, Missouri. He preceded her in death on May 7, 2011. They were married for 65 years.
She was a wonderful Mother and Grandmother. June was a member of the First Baptist Church of Chillicothe, Missouri. She was active in the First Baptist Church, teaching Sunday school and working at Vacation Bible School. She was a PTA President, helped at school parties, was a Girl Scout Leader, and an active member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary. June loved to sew, knit and tat. She made beautiful doilies and tablecloths.
Survivors include one daughter, Dixie and husband Jerry Kerby of The Villages, Florida; one son, Jerry and wife Irene Bryant McKenzie of Meadville, Missouri; four grandchildren, Amy and husband Jason Gipson of DeLand, Florida, Amber and husband Brian Reymond of Gallipolis, Ohio, Nathan and wife Diane McKenzie of Pensacola, Florida, and Matthew McKenzie of Norfolk, Virginia; and six great grandchildren, Dr. Christina Howell of Dayton, Ohio, Madison and husband Jacob Ostermann of Washington, DC, Alison Lockhart of Rio Grande, Ohio, Skyler Gipson of DeLand, Florida, Katie McKenzie of Williamsburg, Virginia and Kyle McKenzie of Yorktown, Virginia. She is also survived by one half-brother, Virgil Lee Brewer and wife Becky. She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Mac; three brothers, Virgil Jr., Jack Brewer and Oliver Brewer; and one sister, Bonnie Shaw.
Funeral services will be held at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Friday, February 14, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. A scheduled visitation will be held at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Friday, February 14, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will be held at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Chillicothe, Missouri.
